India Church Planting

Planting life-giving churches with indigenous leaders for every 1000 people

Evangelism is not enough…. especially in a nation where ‘accepting Jesus’ may be no different than accepting 33 million other gods. The Lord Himself said, “Go, make disciples of the nations”. In 1987, a movement was begun in India to not only evangelize, but to make disciples through personal leadership training and the planting of churches.

Since that time, HBI has planted over 14,000 churches in 23 states, and the number grows daily. Through a systematic combination of classroom training and field experience, people are trained over seven years; first as evangelists, then disciple-makers, then as church planters.

These are carefully designed non-formal training programs enabling them to reach the unreached and plant churches where no church exists. Once a year all of the pastors and church planters come to Chennai for the Pastor’s Conference where they are further equipped and encouraged. This is the highlight of their year.

Training never stops at our ten regional training centers where we equip evangelists, church planters, rural pastors and cross-cultural missionaries, not only from HBI but also from other churches and ministries.

It is vital in India to cast a higher vision for women and their role in the church and in the world. We have specific training for women that equips, empowers, and encourages them to advance God’s kingdom and to serve their local communities.
